I have been involved in numerous jazz, blues, rock, marching and orchestral situations through my schooled training. I have performed in many different mid-west and west coast outfits that include the styles of jazz, rock, blues, classical and world music (Latin, Reggae ect..) I have also performed, toured and recorded professionally in most major cities on the west coast.
     
I give private lessons to students of all ages from my home studio or at the students house.

In my teaching I will improve the students technique and creativity while introducing many diverse styles. I will introduce the rudiments and how they might be applied to any percussion instrument in the form of exercises, grooves, and fills. Linear patterns and other four way coordination patterns will be applied for developing good coordination skills and discipline. R&B, Funk, and Rock will be covered so that the student can grasp a feel of straight 8th and 16th note patterns. Blues, Shuffle, and Jazz will be covered so that the student can get a feel on grooves that are based on triplets. The student will learn about music from all over the world. (Latin, Jamaican, Afro Cuban, Armenian ect.)After the basis of various styles are applied then I will help the student reach into the field of playing over the bar line, playing in odd meters, and soloing.

For a piano student we will focus specifically on the most important skills and concepts a student needs to be able to play proficiently and musically.  This will be through the use of proper technique and providing clear information and explanation of theory. I believe this gives the student the facility to understand how parts are constructed from a writing point of view. Scales, progression, harmonizing improvising and sight reading will also be demonstrated and explained. Also creative exercises to have the student play parts that they can call their own will be encouraged.

I try to meet the needs of my student in the styles they are interested in. I will use the proper methods to help them to become efficient in styling of there choice.
