My years of knowledge, skill, and experience are here for you to use.  Being an accomplished pianist and guitarist, I can bring you through the fundamentals of physically mastering an instrument, giving you proper foundations you can build on, not bad habits that have to be corrected later.  Being a responsible scholar, I am able to explain complex ideas and make them seem simple, ensuring that everyone understands thoroughly the things they need to know.  Finally, because I am an experienced performer, composer, and educator, I can show you how to integrate the mind, ears, body, and imagination into one big musical organism called “You”!! You will quite literally be breathing, thinking, feeling, hearing, and seeing music as a result!!  In short, we can work together to get you what you REALLY want out of music:

• Music and practice will become sources of peace and joy

Many of my students have discovered all these things and more for themselves.  Part of the secret is this:  There will never be more than you can handle and you will never feel “forced” as a result of my teaching…I know that if I can keep you excited about your abilities and your potential, the work and discipline will come from YOU!; All your discoveries and efforts will flow from your increasing successes and in time you will come to look upon what you have built as being all that you wanted and more!!

Students can expect a laid back approach with lots of dialogue.  I put as much information in each lesson as I feel the student can handle.  Depending on how well we communicate with each other, we should be able to reach the perfect balance of working, learning,  playing, and talking after a month or so.  However, each one of you is unique and will have your own set of needs, so there are no hard and fast rules that can't be bent to adapt to the situation.  My real goal is for you to enjoy every part of every lesson; this is the REAL challenge of teaching!

I teach all styles except for jazz. I prefer traditional approaches and methods, using repertoire from masters such as Bach and Mozart to teach good technique. However, I am versatile and can meet the needs of most students. The most important thing is that the student be truly interested in their goals as a musician.
