"John is great with my son. Nathan loves going to class and loves practicing and playing the..."Hi, my name is John. I have been a private guitar instructor since 2002. I am also a recording and performing musician, a songwriter, and a worship leader in the Houston area. I love making music, and I love sharing music with other people. For me, teaching others to play the guitar is one of the most rewarding ways to share music with the world. My musical styles concentrate mostly on rock, jazz, and folk music, with influences from all musical genres. I also enjoy the musical theory involved in playing guitar, and focus greatly on the theory and fundamentals of guitar in my teaching. My goal as an instructor is to make this instrument accessible to everyone who wants to learn. Learning to play an instrument should be the most fun and gratifying thing you can do, and it is my aim to spread the joy that comes with playing an instrument.
Playing the guitar is FUN. That is the single most important aspect of my teaching. If you do not enjoy an instrument, then you should not play it. I strongly emphasize the fundamentals and theory of guitar, including chords and scales, in order to build a strong foundation for learning to play the guitar. My students devote time to personal practice in order to master the skills we are learning. We will cover various styles and rhythms, and learn music from many periods in history.
Above all, playing the guitar should be FUN. That's why we do it. Music is the best way to express your creativity, and the guitar offers endless possibility of creation.
