My name is Marc. I goto Berklee College of Music. I study music ed, music production. I teach for two high schools. wareham high and plymouth high shcool. I am the official percussion instructor for both schools. I also write/arrange for the marching band, jazz band, concert band. I run a music program out of the boys and girls club of plymouth. through the club we have started and indipendant marching percussion group. which is a competitive musical sport. the group has taken first place and second place in the first year, I grew up in the drum corps world. I marched east coast jazz. in 2005 we became world champions in div 2. through drum corps and indoor percussion i have accelerated past your normal musician. Most good drummers get in about 1-2 hours of rehersal. I'm used to waking up at 6 in the moarning and not stopping until midnight, with the occasional water break. As a session player ad a teacher my endurence level is really high. I Practice 4-6 hours a day. And thats not even trying. thats just getting done what needs to be done. I am a very hard working individual who loves to have fun. I believe by A consistant work ethic and a relaxed pace any thing can be accomplished. " you can eat an elephant one bite at a time". Im also the recipient of guitar center drum off (3rd place finalist) I have won countless battle of the bands, not to mention warped tour, music city music festival. i also worked for the royal academy of music as an instrucotr, onset village music, as well as indipendant work. I have study with greats like sean skeete (drummer for puff daddy), larry finn (original drum set player for rent), thom hannum (dci), tom aungst (dci/wgi) dennis delucia (dci/wgi), I also play a huge role in the boston university music program.
5 min- lesson over view. disscussion and game plan about how we are going to handle this lesson.
10 min-warm ups. rudiments, basic patterns to lock in good feel and sound, also some sightreading and pieces that we consistantly work on like snare pieces or drum set solos.
15 min- work on a song, first we will touch apon basic contemporary songs, then as the weeks pass, latin, latin perc, jazz standards, traditional patterns bosa nova, rock, pop, jazz, swing 4 feel 3 feel 2 feel, ect......
30 min- endurence work out. by playing a series of rudiments with a metranome. for example swiss army triplets at 100 beats per min to 160 bpm off the right and the left, every week we will spend the last half our on rudiments and applying them to drum set. the reason i cram on rudiments is it is the alphabet of drumming. you cant speak the language with out knowing the literature. better chopes and better understanding of the vocabulary breeds excellence.
