"Ryan is a blessing for us! Michael is extremely enthustiastic about his guitar lessons - thanks..."Ryan started playing the euphonium at the age of 10. His first choice for an instrument was the tuba, but being the small student that he was, euphonium was decided to be a better choice. He has been playing and loving music ever since, and currently is NY state ceritified and teaches beginning band to 4th grade students in elementary school. He graduated from The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, majoring in Music Performance and Music Education. There, he expanded his playing and teaching skills, and received instruction on all band instruments from some of the finest teachers in the country. In High School, Ryan began playing the bass guitar, and later the electric guitar. He continued to play bass in school jazz bands, as well as groups outside of school in all styles, including during and after college.
While his main instrument is Euphonium, he regularly teaches and plays on Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba, French Horn, Clarinet and Flute
Ryan's teaching style focuses on individual plans tailored for each student. He believes that any student can succeed at their instrument if they put in the proper time to practice, and have the right guidance.
An average lesson with Ryan will include warm ups, working on previously assigned material, and new materials and assignments. For beginner to intermediate, he likes to use the Essential Elements 2000 books, however he can use another method book if the student uses one in school. For advanced brass students, he prefers to use materials from books by Clark, Tyrell, Rochut, and others. If a student has a particular problem in their playing, or is working on a solo, then exercises and lessons will be tailored around this objective. He is open to new ideas, so students should feel free to ask about using books or methods they prefer.
