I have been playing bass in its many forms for the past 11 years. I am a graduate of the bass program at Atlanta Institute of Music, and am currently working on my undergraduate degree in Jazz Performance and Composition. I studied String Bass under Todd Markey and Donovan Stokes, and 4,5, and 6 string Electric Bass under Russ Rodgers and Gary Wilkins. I performed at the 2003 and 2004 Jacksonville Jazz Festival opening for such names as Freddy Cole and Marcus Roberts, and I have also played internationally with the South Georgia Jazz Project in Eger, Hungary in 2004. I currently gig locally in various jazz combos, as well as with my own recently formed Gypsy Jazz Quartet. I also play across the Southeast Region with an established Celtic Rock group. I have always had a great love for music, and am always excited to share with anyone willing to learn!

All students can expect a large focus on proper technique and integration of common basic theory techniques. I encourage all of my students to learn to read music, and later to write modern musical notation. Study materials will come from my own instructional collection as well as material stemming from the student's own musical interests. Questions are always welcome and encouraged.

Beginning Electric Bass students can expect to learn major scales, keys, and common music forms like 12-bar blues and simple rock grooves. As the student progresses, we can begin to work more in-depth on intermediate and advanced music theory elements, and learn about more specific musical styles such as jazz, funk, slap, rock, and Afro-Cuban.

Classical or Orchestral students can expect a similar focus on proper technique and music theory. There is a large emphasis put on reading music in this category. I encourage those studying string bass in school orchestras or string ensembles to bring the material that they are already working on, so that we can use our lesson time so that they may get ahead in those areas. I also have a second double bass in my studio that students may use during lesson time if transportation of instruments is a problem.

Every student can expect a friendly and thorough lesson, and an open environment for questions. Individual creativity is a plus!
