About Me

- Began performing locally (Denver, CO) in community theater at age 7 - Private vocal instruction at the age of 12 - Began performaing locally (Loveland/Denver, CO) in cafes and lounges at age 17 - at the age of 17, began making home visits to teach voice lessons (ages 7-11) - Accepted performance scholarship to Berklee College of Music - Performed in the greater Boston area with Folk/Rock band - Graduated from Berklee in 2005 with a degree in Music Education -Currently teaching 6th grade on the West Side of Chicago - Choir Director at St. Frances of Rome School I love music in any capacity: Listening, singing, writing, playing or teaching. I have been singing most of my life in various contexts, from musical theater, to blues & folk/rock bands and continue to perform and teach today. My background is primarily jazz & blues, and, while I have some classical training, I prefer to stick with more contemporary styles, including jazz, blues, R&B, folk and rock. As a middle school choir director I feel lucky to be able to share my love of music with a group of excitable young people!

Lesson Details

- I want to teach you songs that you want to learn! - Be prepared to bring songs that you would like to learn. If you don't have the music, we can find it. - If you are looking to learn new music and broaden your repertoire, I am always thrilled to accomodate you! There's so much good stuff out there just waiting to be sung! - Learning music theory (reading basic music notation) is an important element of singing, so this is something we will incoporate into our lessons (there's nothing scary about it!). - Lessons include excercises to improve vocal technique: support & breath control, relaxation, placement, and stylistic devices. - Students will be expected to practice on their own throughout the week and come prepared to sing each week. While I find good vocal technique to be incredibly important, my primary goal is fostering musical enjoyment. As a teacher, I want to know what you want to learn and build on that! My goal is to help you or your child build technique, confidence, musical understanding and repertoire. But most importantly, let's focus on what makes music fun for you!
