"Luke has answered all my questions and tought me in a way that kept things interesting. He has..."Luke began studying jazz guitar and music theory with mark wydra (blues guitarist for well known chicago blues musicisan Eddie Clearwater) while in the 7th grade. Ever since then, he has developed a unique and steadfast passion for performing music, studying music, and sharing his love for music with those around him.
Having extensively studied classical voice (Patrick Blackwell, Jeff Ray), music theory (Dr. Chris Lemons) and choral pedagogy (Dr. Clayton Parr) at DePaul University's School of Music, Luke is more than prepared help each one of his students systematically achieve their desired musical goals.
At DePaul University, Luke is the Musical director of DePaul Men's a Cappella (in charge of rehearsals, arrangements, performances), a student run choral performance group that actively gigs within the DePaul community on the average of three times a month. As leader of this group, Luke has developed a passion for teaching music, and unique perspective on how to teach to both current musicians and aspiring musicians.
He believes that the key to teaching music is to inspire a drive for creativity and to discover the intrinsic 'want' that each student of music possesses inside of them. This is done by effectively evolving the techniques that Luke can provide around specific goals that each student has.
Luke's substantial music training, combined with his unique, ever-evolving approach, makes him a perfect choice for anyone who is looking to improve their own musicality.
As well as performing with DePaul Men's a Cappella, Luke is a member of DePaul's top vocal ensemble: The DePaul University Singers. Luke has also been a member of the Chicago Choral Artists, North Shore Baptist Church choir, First United Methodist Church Chapel Choir/Worship Band, as well as performing with countless other choral and instrumental ensembles in the chicago area.
Each lesson with Luke revolves around what the student wants to learn. Luke only acts as a catalyst between the student and his or her own musical intuition and creativity.
Each lesson is conducted in a relaxed state within a comfortable atmosphere, because one can only access their creative mind, once their rational mind is at ease.
Luke has taught musicians of all levels. As such, he knows what to ask and what to expect of each level, be it a beginner who is taking their first lesson, or an expert who just wants a second pair of ears and input.
