"knows the job, very patient."JD has been studying guitar for over twelve years, and has been teaching students of all ages for the last nine. Specializing in lead rock guitar and acoustic folk, JD has performed and recorded with over a dozen acts at a variety of venues across the city of Chicago. Additionally, JD is a professional Acoustical Technician, Audio Engineer and Audio Instructor who graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2006 with a degree in Audio Arts and Acoustics.
When starting lessons with a student I first evaluate their mechanical competency with the instrument and begin working with the student in various techniques to expand their range and complexity of movement while simultaneously incorporating material into these exercises from artists and styles that the student expresses the most interest in. Additionally my approach includes activities that will develop the students understanding of music theory in regards to both their instrument, and the interplay between their instrument and the others in an ensemble. My primary goals are to open pathways of thought and technique, unseen by the student, allowing that student to learn the guitar not just by my instruction, but by their own practice. Furthermore I aim to develop the student’s knowledge to the point that they can more capably and confidently interact with other musicians.
