Three ways to get started

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the prestigious Berklee College of Music with a degree in Professional music. While there I studied with such influential artists as Livingston Taylor and Kenwood Dennard, and have been fortunate enough to play with Victor Wooten and George Porter Jr. (from the Meters). I've been living in Chicago since Summer of 2007 and am offering bass and piano lessons custom-fit to each student's unique style and interests.
I’m a patient, skilled, and friendly electric bass teacher who has more than half a decade of experience teaching students of all ages, levels, and musical styles.
My goal as a teacher is to impart knowledge to my students that I have gained through years of study and continued performance. I want each of my students to be a well-rounded musician, while simultaneously encouraging the growth of each student’s unique sound and style. I educate by connecting unfamiliar musical concepts to intuitive ideas to help the student better grasp and relate to the material on his/her own terms.
I'm a friendly, down-to-earth teacher who like to encourage students and believes strongly in positive reinforcement. I believe that learning music should be fun and not thought of as a chore.
I teach the essential concepts of music by appealing to my student’s musical inclinations and showing that many principles of music are present in all styles. As well keeping my students engaged and interested, this approach encourages the development of an individual sound.
Some of the essential concepts that I focus on are technique, scales, chord theory, chart reading, and ear training. I can also teach notational reading, compostion, and improvisation. The way that I teach these skills is dependant on the student's stylistic preference. Since all these concept are prevalent in every genre, I prefer to focus on music that the student is interested in to show from the very beginning that these skills are an essential part of their own interests.
I have been educated as a jazz player on the bass and piano. As a bassist, I specialize in groove-oriented genres such as Funk, Gospel, Soul, R&B, Rock, Blues, Jazz, and Reggae. I can teach any style of bass, to players of any level.
