I am a graduate of Berklee College of Music and a writer/performer in numerous musical projects. I've been teaching guitar for five years. My personal musical taste is as diverse as it comes. Whatever your interests in style or technique, I can find common ground with you and help you grow.
I've had students of all ages, interests and skill levels - from absolute beginners taking up music for the first time to 40 year guitar veterens interested in reading music for their instrument, from acoustic folk players to teenagers looking to learn punk rock tunes to scare their parents with.
My approach is to always incorporate theory and ear training into my lessons. These skills will help the student learn songs on their own and are very useful for prospective songwriters of all styles. When working with absolute beginners, the focus will be on rudimentary techniques such as left hand/right hand coordination, strumming patterns, simple chord progressions, posture and the basic anatomy and ergonomics of the instrument.
I do not teach advanced soloing styles such as "shred" or bebop.
My lessons are generally "at your own pace". I understand that some students may not have time to practice more than 10-30 minutes a day and may have other priorities, so I do not give strict "homework" assignments unless requested by the student or the parent/guardian of a student. Basically, any effort you put in, that's what you'll get out, and I'll be right there with you whatever your pace.
