I've been playing guitar for 12 years. When I began I taught myself by ear, so I understand that reading music doesn't always come first to a young guitarist. In college I studied a year of classical guitar, and three years of jazz guitar, learning to read music along the way. This included 3 years of big band and small group jazz ensembles. I also played in bands outside of school, most notably in the 10 piece afrobeat group The Afromotive, and other local rock groups. I've toured up and down the east coast, from Burlington, VT to Miami, FL. I'm also well versed in jazz and pop theory, and believe that this knowledge is crucial to being a successful musician in today's world. I can teach a wide variety of styles, from jazz to rock to blues to funk, and even a little bit of country twang thrown in. I recently graduated with a degree in commercial and electronic music from Western Carolina University, and moved to Atlanta to work in the recording industry. I'm excited to pass my knowledge to anyone who's willing to learn and practice!

I create my lesson plans on a case-by-case basis. I like to cater to what the student wants to get out of their instrument. What kind of music do you like? Do you want to shred, or strum an acoustic around the campfire with your friends? What is your skill level? Once things like this are established a plan can be developed to help you reach your goals. I'm a laid back person, and I believe that it is up to the student to determine what they get from their lessons. Practice is very important, because that is how the knowledge you've been given is reinforced. I can show you the way, and you can get there through working with what you are given. Let's rock!

I specialize in funk, rock, and jazz. My time playing afrobeat has informed my playing quite a bit, along with my time at school playing in large and small jazz ensembles, and I'm very knowledgeable about chord voicings, rhythms, and tenor line playing. I'm also an accomplished rock soloist, and have played many diverse styles of music.
