About Me

Education:

BA from Texas Tech/ Dallas Baptist University
60+ Masters Hours
Guitar Instructor for over ten years
Worship leader for over ten years
Teach Electric, Classical and Acoustic
Played guitar in Barcelona, Spain for two summers
Directed several 4 and 5 member bands 
Teach all styles of music - current pop, classic rock, classical etc. (Beatles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, U2, Coldplay, Green Day, David Crowder Band,Third day, Chris Tomlin etc.)
Staff Instructor at Lake Arlington Academy of Music for 3+ years; Currently on staff with Good School of Music and on staff as worship leader with local Lake Arlington church.

I teach students of all ages (5 to 99!) in an encouraging, fun way - but the lessons also have the structure necessary to make a great musician! Students will see themselves making progress and meeting their goals in a very clear way! We will also learn current/ classic songs that they love off the radio or their favorite CD to add some "dessert" to their musical training! (:

First year (Beginner) Guitar Program includes:

Required Text/ Curriculum:
Guitar Method 1 by Aaron Stang; Alfred Publishing (Blue cover)
Available at Mr. E’s on Cooper across from the Parks Mall in Arlington

In the first 6 months to 1 year your student will learn:

Sight Reading:
Students will learn to sight read in the keys of C and G, including the following melodies:
Jingle Bells, Aura Lee, When the Saints Go Marching In, Oh Susannah, We Three Kings, Red River Valley, Danny Boy, Plaisir D’Amour, Blue Eyes Cryin’ In the Rain, Amazing Grace, House of the Rising Sun, Surfin’ Safari, Brahms Lullaby, Cielito Lindo, Battle of Aughrim, Surf-Rock, Loch Lomond, Scarborough Fair, A Little Night Music (and more)

1st position Chords/ Scales:
Your student will learn essential chords/ scales the first semester/ year, including:
“Baby” G, “Baby” C, Em, D, E, Am, A, D7,
G7, Dm, Full G, Full C, F, B7, C7, E7, A7
Power chords (6th and 5th root)
Barre Chords
5 Pentatonic Scale Patterns

Tablature

Students will learn how to read tablature (TAB) on all six strings. (TAB is guitar specific music notation using six lines to represent the guitar strings)
The following is a sample of TAB songs for First Year students: Wild Thing, Smoke on the Water, Eye of the Tiger, La Bamba, Layla, Sweet Home Alabama, Peter Gunn (Mancini), Vertigo
(U2), Classic Rock Riff, Wipe Out, Day Tripper (Beatles), Pretty Woman (Roy Orbison), Twist and Shout (Beatles), Heartbreaker (Led Zeppelin), Boulevard of Broken Dreams (Green Day), Clocks (ColdPlay), Brown Eyed Girl (Van Morrison), Iron Man, and many others!

Intermediate Level students may choose two of the following focused track programs: Rock guitar, Lead, Rhythm, Classical, or Theory

Rock Guitar Track: This track focuses on playing electric guitar with an emphasis on power chords, rock progressions, some lead playing and blues and primarily relies on tablature. Rock Workshops containing full versions of current and classic rock songs will be mastered by the student, giving them the tools necessary to perform various themes within a rock song. (Intro, verse, chorus, bridge, solo, outro etc.)

Lead Guitar track: This track focuses on playing lead guitar with an emphasis on learning scales, modes and improvisation over different keys and chords. It is primarily designed as a foundational course for lead guitar players.

Rhythm Guitar Track: This track focuses on playing rhythm guitar with an emphasis on learning chords, barre chords, triads, progressions, intricate strum patterns and rhythm techniques. It is primarily designed as a foundational course for rhythm guitar players.

Classical guitar Track: This track focuses on playing Classical guitar with an emphasis on PIMA finger picking, sight reading, classical techniques (rest stroke, free stroke, tremolo, vibrato etc.) and includes playing various classical pieces. (Segovia, Carcassi etc.)

Theory/ Method Guitar Track: This track is a continuation of the Guitar Method 1 from the Beginner course - Students will begin in Guitar Method 2 and 3.

Specialties

I offer a beginner foundational course that teaches beginning guitar students how to sight read in the keys of C and G, all their first position chords, all their power chords, barre chords and pentatonic scales. Then I offer intermediate tracks in Rock guitar, Lead Guitar, Rhythm Guitar, Classical guitar, and Theory
